Hi

I've inherited a Advent 3408A PC

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/pc/3408a.htm

Everything sounds as though it is powering up ok. There is also a red light
on the motherboard. I can see the fans working too.
The monitor is definitely in working order as I have tested it on another
machine. The green light is on but the display just says 'Attention No
signal Input'
I've removed and reseated the memory. I even tried booting it with just one
memory stick (there are 2 and I tried with each of them) in case this was
the problem. I've checked all other connections and removed and replaced the
battery.
There are no beeps either (would I hear this even without speakers in?)
Apparently, before this problem began, the pc wouldn't boot up. There was
an error message on a blue screen but the person who gave me the pc can't
remember what it was, although they are thinking there may have been a hard
drive problem.

Any suggestions would be brilliant.

Thanks in advance

try resetting the bios...
there is usually a 3 pin jumper near the cmos battery...

with power off...you move it to the "other" position for a few seconds...
then back again

Thanks,

Have just done that.....left the jumper on the new position for about 3
mins....is that enough?......still no joy when I put it back though.

any other ideas?

Cheers

Mo

try a minimal hardware cfg...
ie: unplug all cards (but video of course)
disconnect harddrive, cdrom and floppy
etc.

if that still does not work you will need to substitiute parts...
such as trying another powersupply etc

There's not much else you can do that hasn't already been suggested
without swapping parts out. eg video card. then again it could be
the motherboard or CPU, but start by switching the card out if
possible.

you said you tested the monitor on another machine. you could try
putting the video card into this other machine and testing it that
way.
