From: William M. Klein on 7 Dec 2007 19:10 For those (and I *think* there are still a few in comp.lang.cobol) who care about the ongoing revision work to create the NEXT COBOL Standard, you might want to look at: http://www.cobolstandard.info/j4/files/07-0183.doc Given recent experience, I probably won't see (draft) minutes of the J4 meeting that was just held for a couple of months, so I can't tell readers of comp.lang.cobol how this paper was received (if at all) at this meeting. However, as the date on the paper was December 3, 2007 (although it was JUST announced to the J4 mailing list today), therefore my best guess is that it was discussed. You may also be interested in the "Open Issues" document at: http://www.cobolstandard.info/j4/files/07-0191.doc NOTE: The last approved J4 meeting minutes at: http://www.cobolstandard.info/j4/files/07-0184.doc said "An "open issues" document will be added to the draft to publicize those defects from the current standard that remain unresolved in the current working draft. " So don't ask me what happened to these. * * * At one time, J4 maintained a list of those who wanted to be notified when a "Public Review Period" was to be held. To the best of my knowledge, no such list still exists. However, if you WANT to be notified of such a public review period, I would suggest that you contact the J4 chair at: bobkarlin <at> karlinskorner.com and request that your name be added to such a list if it exists and if it does not that you be told how to find out about such reviews in a "timely manner" allowing you to participate. (This is for J4 and the US position; if you are interested in participating in the international review process, you will need to contact your national Standards body and ask them how you can contribute to your country's input to the process.) -- Bill Klein wmklein <at> ix.netcom.com
