From: Snapper on 24 May 2008 00:12 I have about 300 notes that I imported from the Palm Desktop when I bought a Windows Mobile based HP iPaq and retired a Palm Zire 71. Now, when I tap on Notes they all are displayed. Unfortunately they belong in different categories but I cannot get them to view by that. At the top of the screen there is an option "All Folders". I tap on it and it shows me a number of folders that I can see. For some reason the categories that I set up in Outlook aren't being displayed or shown on the handheld. When I open a note there is no category that it's assigned to. It's as if the PDA doesn't accept categories. I think that I'd have to create folders and move the notes to them. I would have prefered them to be categorised but it seems that this isn't possible. Or am I wrong? If so, how can I resolve this? Thanks.

It probably means that I'll have to figure out how to export/import the notes from Outlook or the PDA to the new application. Meantime I'm having issues with a database program called 'HanDBase' and slow performance. I created a simple 3 field database to replace the Notes function. But it's as slow as treacle when entering data and I can't figure out why. None of the other databases that I use are slow.

Came up with a few but mostly commercial products. And none of them really suit what I want to do. Will keep looking, but I'm open to suggestions. Basically I want a program that allows me to write notes either in handwriting or typing, but able to place them in categories.

going back to your original post, one (poor) option is to create my documents folders which match the categories and move the notes into their respective folders. Another crude option is to enter the categories after a special character at the top of each note... i.e. ~ppc ~general ~frustrations ....doing so will allow you to use the find app to search on "~<category>" to filter to the relevant notes, plus allow each note to fall into multiple cats. hth, Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |
