I prepared a Powerpoint X/SR1 presentation using iMac G4/700 OSX 10.2.8,
then burned two separate disks on the built-in Sony CD burner.

One I left as 'Mac Extended', the other I burned after choosing MS-DOS
format in the Disk Copy File Preferences dialog.

Neither could be read by the PC-based industrial AV system provided at the
venue where I was to give the presentation - major tooth grinding. The
'system information' suggested that the disks were blank and there was a
Powerpoint application on the system.

Can anyone suggest what is wrong? I tested both on my iMac and there was no
problem, and I definitely don't want this to happen again.

It's possible they don't like the media you're using. However, I usually
burn using the standard Mac 'Hybrid' format in Tiger, and have had no
problems at all. I use ProFormance Cds and Infiniti DVDs.

I have burned dozens of discs right back to 10.1 and again no problems,
although I tend to leave the settings at default.

Thanks for the reply: the disks are Memorex 700MB and I burned them as 610MB
disks from the Disk Copy menu.

I have had another look at them on a PC and they show as being 159MB "used"
in WinExplorer, which is about right for the file size on them, but the List
shows an empty folder. But the PC won't read the disks at all, the disk
drive does not even make the usual spinning noises. Maybe there is
incompatibility between the iMac Sony burner and some other CD drives?

regards,
mutley

Righto. FWIW Memorex are the only products to ever give me trouble -
cassette tapes, VHS and CDs.

It's possible I guess. My previous drive was a Lite-On unit as fitted to
a LaCie enclosure. The G5 drive is a Pioneer unit.

I still think you might just have a setting wrong somewhere though.

Try using DiskBlaze, that offers more options, and more easily too.

Just to hijack briefly: when burning mp3s to a CD, can it be in any
format, ie audio or files? I always thought that it was just a matter of
clicking on a file to play it, if it didn't start automatically.

I burnt a CD for a friend, but her CD player wounldn't play it (possibly
oldish), but her boyfriend's iBook wouldn't play it either, apparently.
