From: Ian Bethell on 7 Jan 2008 13:03 I have had 2GB (2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 8500) in my PC for some time, anr recently got another 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 8500 Chips. I have tried differing slot configurations, but all I can see is 2.5GB when the bios boots up. With either two in, I see 2GB. Any suggestions? I'm using default auto settings in the bios and I have a Dual core 2140 1.6Ghz CPU. I also have Vista business x64 so should see the Ram in this O/S Am i being stupid?

From: Ian Bethell on 10 Jan 2008 03:12 Many thanks you two. These bios settings do my head in. No mention of that in the manual. Maybe there are other settings that can be changed to get the most out of my system? For instance, when I boot up, it says the memory is only PC 6400 when shouldn't it be 8500? but then maybe cos i've got such a cheap processor it won't allow it to go any faster? Cheers again for your help. Ian. Rather than read the paper copy of the manual that comes in the box, it is better to download the PDF file from support.asus.com download page. Then, you can search for the settings in there, and see what they look like. http://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5B%20Deluxe/e3148_p5b_deluxe.zip The FSB:MEM is a fixed set of ratio(s). You may be offered several settings, for each possible level of FSB. Some of the settings are considered overclocking settings, because they are outside the Intel design document range. But they should still work (i.e. Asus should have tested that they worked, before shipping out the BIOS with the board). Note that some boards can be picky or very picky about RAM. Just because the RAM came with the fancy 8500 rating, doesn't mean using it at that speed is going to be easy. I think your odds are better of finding the "Memory Remapping Feature", than they are of getting good working RAM at PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066) right off the bat. Some extra Vdimm would normally be required, for a start. Consult the specs for your RAM, before adjusting that.
