From: »Q« on 18 Apr 2008 00:49 I think I'm reading the manual correctly, but I thought I'd better run it by you guys. I've got a P5K with two 1024 DIMMS in dual channel mode at 800 MHz. If I get two 512 DIMMs (same manufacturer, same timings as the ones I already have) and put them in the other two slots, the full 3 GB should run in dual channel mode, right?

However, I take it you're using 32bit XP? In which case it can have trouble accessing even 3GB at times and most wise heads say there's no real benefit from going from 2GB to 3GB. Bottom line; If you already have the RAM or are not short of a buck or two it can't hurt to try. However, resale value on 2 x 512MB DDR2 DIMMs is unlikely to be high. -- Shaun.

Sometimes 32bit XP home, but mostly 64bit Slackware, which should be able to see the 3 GiB. It's rare that memory is swapped to disk, but it happens sometimes. > Bottom line; If you already have the RAM or are not short of a buck > or two it can't hurt to try. Whether or not I buy them for the possible, slight improvement is still a toss-up.
