Recently purchased a new P5VD1-X and an Intel 630 (3.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2
MB cache, EM64T). When I put the system together with 512 MB DDR400 RAM
and an AGP video card, it powers on but does not POST. I get 1 long beep
and 2 short beeps from the speaker.

I have put the new 630 CPU on another motherboard and it works fine. I
have also tried a different stick of RAM and a different AGP video card. I
have also cleared the CMOS. Removed all peripherals and connectors (USB,
front audio, etc.). Tried a different power supply (with 24-pin ATX
connector) with same result.

From my research the POST code seems to indicate a video problem. The only
thing I don't have on hand is a PCI-e video card.

Has anyone else used this board with AGP successfully? I think I'm looking
at an RMA.

Looking at the BIOS on the support page, it is pretty obvious
Asus released the board before the Northbridge was tuned up.
Looking at the VIA web page, that Northbridge is quite ambitious,
having dual channel RAM, processor interface, Ultra V-link,
PCI-E x4, and AGP 8X all on the same chip. That is a lot of
switching noise for one chip, and you can see from the comments
below, that they have been trying to tame that noise. (The PCI-E
x16 slot only has x4 lanes wired to it.)

[ 0130 ]
Release BIOS to support Winbond flash ROM.

[ 0128 ]
Modify V-Link default setting for stabilize system.
Release BIOS 0128 for P5VD1-X 2.03 to force MB running in mode 0 (4x mode)

[ 0127 ]
Change DDR SDRAM Initial Voltage from 2.56V to 2.66V.

1. Enhance AGP 8X driving and reduce its signal noise
2. Revise DMI Information

What you need to do, is get the board flashed to 0130 if
you can. You may have to borrow an old PCI video card
to get it done. Or find a BIOS flashing company, like
badflash.com , to ship you a new chip with the 0130 code
in it. (Maybe your vendor has an EEPROM programmer and
can reflash the chip for you ?)

And if it already has 0128 or 0130 in it, with Asus best
efforts to stabilize it, and it still cannot run your
video card, I'd return it and find some other board.

(The beep pattern implies the BIOS code was able to run,
so I think your processor is able to work in the board.)
