Does anyone know the approximate difference in data throughput between a
drive on a SATA-II controller on a PCI bus versus the same drive on a
PCIe (x 1) bus?

Approximately none, give or take a few MB/s.

Thanks. Other than video applications, what hardware would take
advantage of the faster bus then?

For example a RAID controller. We have some 8x RAID controllers
from Arcea and they deliver about 250MB/s, which a regular PCI
slot cannot support (but PCI-X can, if fast enough).

Thanks. I am looking to upgrade my 5 year old system and the
motherboard I am considering (Intel BOXDP35DPM LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX)has
3 PCI and 3 PCIe x 1 slots (plus a PCIe x 16 slot for video). I was
just wondering what the PCIe expansion slots would best be used for.

Thanks
