From: BigK on 22 May 2008 08:50 I used to have something that would reformat PDF files for the PocketPC. It was a long time ago and I can't remember what it was and where I got it. Anyone know of such a tool. I just created one and it ended up so small I could not read it in Adobe's PDF reader for WM.

Certain PDFs include "tags," which the Pocket version of Reader uses to reflow a PDF's text on a small screen. PDFs without tags don't reflow, and that's likely why you're seeing tiny text in a PDF. It has been my experience that when you use your computer to install Reader for PPC on PocketPC, it also adds some filters to ActiveSync. Later, when you use ActiveSync to copy a PDF to your device, these filters add "tags" to PDF files so the software on the PPC can reflow the text on the PDA's smaller screen. The tagging can take some time, but I've generally been happy with the readability of the results on my PDA. A couple things that have vexed me: * PDFs are tagged only if you use ActiveSync to copy them to the device. Simply copying a PDF to a storage card or beaming it to the device won't do it. I've seen the conversion/tagging taking place at the time of the transfer when everything is set up correctly. * Simply installing Reader on your device by using a CAB file won't install the ActiveSync filters on your computer. * The conversion appears to apply only to the copy of the PDF that ends up on the PDA. The original copy on the computer remains untagged, and you must run it through ActiveSync again if you want that PDF to end up on another device (or, presumably, copy the tagged version from the PDA to a second PDA--although I haven't tried this). cheers
From: Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev] on 22 May 2008 20:06 To expand Abbie's info with a couple more bits... "full" Acrobat (read $$$) can add tags to some pdf's... load the file, then advanced/accessibility/makeaccessible Tags cannot be added to many pdfs, some reasons include; If _any_ tags exist in the pdf... for example, one table or frame in a large may be tagged which will prevent any additional tags from being added. The document protection level often prevents the addition of tags The activesync "tagger" often cannot add tags to large pdf files. No third party pdf generator I have found can create pdf's with tags Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices]
