When I try to preview my web pages in the browser I get error 404 come up. The
root file tests fine and I checked with my hosting company and the connection
is fine. I must have done something incorrect when I set up the individual
pages. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

What do you mean by the root file tests fine? Are you testing them locally on your PC or are you uploading them to your host and testing?

Is this when you press F12 preview in browser while in dreamweaver?
Or when you try to view the page on the remote server?

WAG: did you enter info in this site definition for a "testing server" but
don't need one? Is there server side scripting in this site like php or asp?
if not, remove all info from the testing server pane.
