From: Alan Meyer on 3 Jan 2008 11:28 My ancient Palm VIIx has the great virtue (in my eyes) of using ordinary AAA batteries. I get a week or more worth of use from a pair of NiMH rechargeables and carry spares with me so that, when the batteries run out I can pop in freshly charged ones and be back in business in 60 seconds. Four good quality rechargeables cost only $10 and last for years and years. Are there any more modern PDAs that have this feature? If there aren't any that use off the shelf standard size batteries, are there at least some that have easily removable rechargeable batteries for which spares can be carried? Every single digital camera I have seen has this feature. Some use standard AA sizes and some use proprietary Lithium Ion, but all of them have a simple way to remove, recharge, and replace the battery. I know many cell phones also have easily replaceable batteries. Don't any of the Palm or other PDAs have this? Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to remove the battery to perform a hard reset.

Which is what you want when swapping batteries. I can swap the battery in my 700p in less than 30 seconds. But then I never bother because a charge will easily last a day of heavy use (YMMV). I simply always plug it into the charger on my night stand every night and I'm good to go for another day. No big deal at all. Camping or something like that might present a challenge. -- Regards, Doug -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

I think the lithium ion rechargeable have actually more energy than the NiMH, but the current PDA's use more power to run the backlit color display. So it's not a fair comparison. Adam
