From: Jim on 17 May 2008 10:10 I have an ipaq 2215 that I sync with my work PC. I use Active Sync to sync with MS Outlook for contacts and tasks, and I use Cadenza to sync with Lotus Notes for the calendar. As part of an upgrade program, I received a new PC and my old PC was taken away. I now want to partner my ipaq with the new PC. What is the best way to do this? I was thinking of deleting the contacts, tasks and calendar files on my ipaq, then load ActiveSync and Cadenza on my new PC and create a new partnership. Is this the best way to go? Any advice would be most welcome. In advance, thanks. Jim
From: Jim on 18 May 2008 19:23 As a follow-up, I successfully created a partnership with my new PC. I did not delete any of the files beforehand (as I was thinking of doing). Instead, after I loaded Activesync on the new PC, I connected my Ipaq and went through the synchronization process. It recognized (obviously) that I was creating a new partnership and I was prompted for info. The key question was did I want to just use just the info on my PC, just the info on my Ipaq, or combine both. Because I had loaded my outlook files on my new PC, I selected just the info on my PC. Everything worked fine. I then loaded Cadenza (mNotes) and synced again. Cadenza is a very nice software and always seems to intuitively know what to do. It did so in this case and picked up the synchronization process right where it left off with my old PC. I did notice the start of the synchronization process seems to take a little bit longer time than it did with my old PC but at this time I'm not complaining -- it works. From: r_z_aret on 19 May 2008 11:17 For future reference, you can greatly reduce the risk of corrupting Outlook's data, but backing it up first. And that is rather easy because Outlook stores info for each account in a ".pst" file. By default, it is outlook.pst in the user's settings directory. You may need to shut down Outlook to gain access, but you can make a copy any way you find convenient.
