From: Ian Dalgleish on 28 Jun 2008 04:59 I bought a new 3.06 GHz 24" iMac running OS 10.5.3. I decided to use Disk Utility to 'Repair Permissions' one night. NINE HOURS LATER it was still going! It had finished when I awoke next morning!! Next time, I tried to 'Verify Permissions' just to see what would happen. I also checked the 'Show details' box. An endless flow of messages, all starting with: ACL found but not expected on "Applications/ came churning out. 123458 messages and 2.5 hours later it came to a halt with the message "Permissions verification complete" I've reproduced 3 of the messages below: one from the beginning, one from the middle and one from the end. I didn't think you'd want all 123458 :-) ACL found but not expected on "Applications/DVD Player.app/Contents/Resources/Spanish.lproj/CCPageWindow.nib/objects.xib ". ACL found but not expected on "Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/Resources/Japanese.lproj/TextEditHel p/pgs/11432.html". ACL found but not expected on "Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Japanese.lproj/SafariHelp/pg s/9297.html". I know that ACL means 'Access Control List' and I know, from other forums and threads, that this is not a problem I need to worry about e.g. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1276330&tstart=14 If, however, I *do* get a genuine problem which requires me to Repair Permissions, the length of time spent piddling about with these 'ACL messages' could be very annoying! Has anyone else encountered the 'ACL' problem and does anyone have any advice? Ian |
