Under Server configuration on PWA there are two settings:

"Allow master projects to be saved to Microsoft Project Server "
and
"Allow master projects to be published to Microsoft Project Server."

How are these different. I thought saving the project was publishing. Or are
they referring to publishing assignments?

Hi Robert

Allow master projects to be saved to Microsoft Project Server

Selecting this option allows projects that have other projects inserted to
be saved to the project server

Allow master projects to be published to Microsoft Project Server
Selecting this option allows project that have other projects inserted and
have been saved to the project server to be published to the Project Web
Access tables - making them available in the Project Centre and Project
Detail views

As an aside - saving master projects to the project server creates double
accounting and except in unusual circumstances should be avoided. There is
not such a need to save master projects with the correct application of
outline codes.

I hope this helps

I do not believe that saving master projects in the Project Server database
causes the double-booking of assignments. The source of the double-booking
is the publishing of master projects. To be absolutely safe, however, you
can save a master project as an .mpp file to keep it out of the Project
Server database entirely. Hope this helps.

I dont want to get double accounting and duplicate publishing confused. You
will experience double accounting e.g. two entries for the same cost if you
save a master project - e.g. contains another enterprise project.

I agree you will only experience duplicate assignments if you publish a
master plan

Chris --

I'm struggling with where you have seen the double accounting of project
costs when you save a master project in the Project Server database. I
cannot confirm this in either Microsoft Project Professional or in Project
Web Access, but then again, maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

I have created a simple master project consisting of only two subprojects.
When I open the master project, I don't see double accounting in either a
task view or resource view. If I open either of the subproject alone, I
still don't see the double accounting. Please guide me where I can see the
double accounting of project costs, either in Microsoft Project Professional
or in PWA. Thanks!
