I approached this update with fear and > trepidation expecting everything to fall apart... :-) (tribute to MS track > record...) To my surprise it installed effortlessly and NOTHING reacted to > it. I have NEVER had a BSOD or hang since running this machine. (It has 2GB > of main memory... Lack of memory and continual memory leakage seems to be a > frequent problem with MS apps.) I use XP and hated it when forced to install it. It was unstable and crashed repeatedly. Then I got hit by a virus (not the Herpes type) and had to rebuild from scratch. I installed the OSes (98, XP, SP1, SP2) and all of its' updates before installing applications. I have never known a pc to be more stable (one week of solid 24/7 disk thrashing without a crash but that is another story). Lesson learned - do not install an upgrade on to the operating system which requires the new OS to 'guess' the parameters to run the applications by. Instead, clean install the original OS and then install the upgrade and patches. Then, finally, re-install your applications. </Here endeth the sermon>
