From: Sue Morton on 22 Apr 2008 14:40 I would suspect the Lynx drivers in general as well. BUT I also have an onboard sound module (Realtek) with WDM drivers, which are also not as stable in Reaper as in Sonar and Audition. I haven't experiemented all that much, but have done more with the Lynx than with the Realtek. The Lynx drivers should not be a problem for Reaper, as they conform right down the line to m$'s whitepapers on what the hardware driver should and should not do. I know this because I had a piece of software that did not play nice with the Lynx drivers, the software fellow said it was a problem with the Lynx. The Lynx guy said it was a problem with the software and went right down the line what the software was doing and why it was 'not legal'. So I asked the Lynx guy to contact the software fellow directly. Next thing I knew, I got an updated release of the software and it now worked fine with my Lynx :-) -- Sue Morton Glennbo wrote: > I don't think her mobo has anything to do with it. From: Sue Morton on 22 Apr 2008 16:32 Lynx MME driver performs equally (badly) in Reaper, but in Sonar it performs nearly identical to the ASIO driver. I suspect my problems might stem from my running a 'lean machine' with many windows services and libraries turned off or unloaded. Most software I've used has abysmal (or non-existent) checking for the presence of external components, that are typical in a windows system, and lock up or crashi if something is missing (Sonar is no exception in this regard). DAW software especially should not be vulnerable to this as many DAWs are tweaked to improve performance and turn off unneeded functionality. I can't prove this, however, unless I take the time to install a vanilla OS and then build repetitive simulations, changing one service or library at a time and re-running the simulations, until the problem appears again. Haven't got the time for that... I don't know of a faster way to isolate it given I do not have the source code to Reaper. -- Sue Morton Glennbo wrote: > In news:diqPj.6150$GO4.1440(a)newssvr19.news.prodigy.net the killer > robot "Sue Morton" <867-5309(a)domain.invalid> grabbed the controls of > the spaceship cakewalk.audio and pressed these buttons... > >> I would suspect the Lynx drivers in general as well. From: Sue Morton on 22 Apr 2008 23:05 Looks like I have 17, including task manager :-) -- Sue Morton Glennbo wrote: > I am sure though that I only > have 28 processes running according to the task manager.
From: Sue Morton on 23 Apr 2008 09:21 Well so much for the newest version of Reaper. I installed it, and it sort-of loads (the UI tries to come up but then is frozen while incompletely painted on the screen). Rest of the PC is fine, taskmanager shows Reaper.exe doing nothing but sitting there. {sigh} -- Sue Morton Glennbo wrote: > In news:XHxPj.2904$26.2819(a)newssvr23.news.prodigy.net the killer robot > "Sue Morton" <867-5309(a)domain.invalid> grabbed the controls of the > spaceship cakewalk.audio and pressed these buttons... > >>> I am sure though that I only >>> have 28 processes running according to the task manager. > >> Looks like I have 17, including task manager :-) > > I can shut down a bunch of the ones running on my machine, because I > have stuff going like bluetooth, an X10 program for my remote > control, a program for my multi-media keyboard, network stuff, Zone > Alarm, etc. Heck, I surf the net while I'm recording a lot of the > time. Finally decided to kill reaper.exe with task manager. Entire PC locked up solid - no mouse, no keyboard, nothing. Big red switch again for The Reaper.... -- Sue Morton Sue Morton wrote: > Well so much for the newest version of Reaper.
