They use proprietary, undocumented connectors from the motherboard to external parts. Check your present board carefully before proceeding, to see if you can handle it. It is not for the technically inexperienced.

You likely won't find one to fit it without changing the case and power supply as well. Dell has a history of specifying custom connectors for things like the front panel ports and power controls. Sell it and buy a custom box if you want to play. It will be cheaper in the long run, at least until you burn something up.
From: Ben Myers on 6 Sep 2008 22:25 Never mind the history. It is simply idle speculation with no basis in fact. Does anyone know the EXACT layout of the Dimension 530 motherboard and all its connectors? Well, the Dimension 530 does not exist, so I will assume that the OP meant the Inspiron 530. The technical information for the 530 on the Dell web site is too sketchy to be really helpful. The best thing for the OP to do here is to solve the problem himself by comparing a MODERN LGA775 board with PCI-Express slots side by side with what is inside the 530. Maybe he can get a dead board for comparison, or take the 530 to a store that sells motherboards? Features which are potentially proprietary include the fan connector, the front panel USB connectors, any front panel audio connector, and the connector for power on-off button, power LED, hard drive active LED. On certain Dell P4 systems in the past, some but not all of these were absolutely standard. .... Does it really provide any benefit? Just curious. |
