From: Terry Pinnell on 19 May 2008 03:22 I love my iPAQ 2210, and it's given me great service over the years. But after several recent total losses needing full restore (probably due to a failing backup battery, which I gather is hard-soldered so I can't easily fix), I reckon the time has come to upgrade. It's not the cost that has held me back, but the anticipated hassle of getting all my programs (WM 2003) reinstalled and everything set up sweetly again. Oh, and buying a new leather case ;-( So I'd greatly appreciate recommendations from others please, especially anyone who has upgraded from 2210/2215. My main requirements are: 1) Easy installation of all or most of my existing WM2003 programs. 2) Bluetooth (because I have a little GPS receiver which communicates via Bluetooth). 3) Hopefully a brighter screen; the 2210 is very hard to see outdoors. 4) Improved battery life. 5) Supports at least an SD card, and ideally an CF card as well, like my 2210. 6) Obviously must have headphone socket. My 2210 is my portable music player - one of my main applications (Pocket Music). I'm not into smartphones etc (hardly use my bog-standard 'phone), so I'm only looking for a PPC. Any suggestions would be much appreciated please. -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK

I suggest you take a look at the iPAQ 114: http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=156153 and the iPAQ 214: http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=156268 I hear what you say about the phone, but if you spend enough on your mobile, your provider would probably give you a TyTN-II for free. Most of the UK mobile providers offer this device, although some of them give it a different name. See: http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=151713 If you are activesyncing to the same PC, then re-installing your programs should be straightforward. Just use the add/remove programs section of Activesync, it will have a stored list of the previously installed programs, and you should be able to select the ones to be sent to the new PPC. -- WH

See my review of the latter on my blog, where I've thorought compared the two solutions. You may also want to take a look at the x51v if you prefer a more gaming-oriented PDA. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. I will second the iPAQ 210 and state it supports both SD and CF. FYI I don't know if this is like your old PPC but the CF slot on the iPAQ 210 is thick enough that I could use it with my 4g microdrive. One more thing about the iPAQ 210. It comes with a "BT Phone Manager" that is designed to help you get internet access from your cell phone. I tried it a few times, I even got it to work but I'll never mess with it again. I happen to have a PPC/phone with BT DUN and the iPAQ 210 just dials into it on it's own and connects me to the internet without the "BT Phone Manager." You can also use the iPAQ 210 to access the internet via BT PAN just like you would do with a laptop computer with Bluetooth.
