How can one record BBC recordings, from their website ? I like listening to old BBC radio comedy shows, eg. Steptoe, but I'd like to record these to tape. How can I capture the audio on a Debian Linux system ? -- Darren

Find out the real stream source; you can do this by looking at the clip info from clip source in realplayer and then grabbing that page which contains the stream source. Then use: mplayer -dumpfile <filename> -dumpstream rtsp:<whatever>. You will want to add: deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main to your /etc/apt/sources.list and then apt-get install mplayer-586 (or whatever suits your CPU). apt-get install w32codecs

How helpful is that! Can you come round here and set my system up to record all these programmes I like too? :) Thanks for the big clue (especially the latest mplayer sources.list hint). Justin. -- Justin C, by the sea.

I use kde, & successfully use Krecord also setting up with Kmix, and monitoring wiht input level-krecord kmix is important, the input and output channels and settings are not quite self explanatory enough.... but it works well once I found the correct choices. (to whom it may concern - I do use cl sometimes, but my priority is to simply use the pc, later I will be more into subtleties). -- ac |
