From: Jim on 25 Feb 2006 17:07 Had very bad luck with two TV tuner cards I have purchased. Recovered a used one from a tossed out computer - works fine. Go figure! So finally with a properly functioning tuner card I can ask the question: what application(s) is recommended for recording the shows? Ultimately I'd like to have quality for DVD burning if that is available. Thanks

With the Mandriva packages, is that an install and use app or one that requires additional compiling?

The shows you record do though depending on what you record. I do all HD. 1080i broadcast take about 7GB per hour. 720p about 4.3GB per hour and digital SD I don't recall, maybe about 1.2GB per hour. Now I've got 4 tuner cards in mine and record everything I watch. Can't stand live tv. I'd say a minimum of 80 free gig for HD recordings regardless of which program you use to record them. The size of the recordings will all be about the same. if your doing analog, then you probably don't need more than 20gig. > With the Mandriva packages, is that an install and use app or one that > requires additional compiling? There's rpm's for it in contrib. I compiled mine, since I didn't think to check for rpm's.:-) -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php
