From: MSUdub on 22 Jul 2005 09:48 We just had to reformat our hard-drive and reinstall Windows XP Home edition. We now need to reintall all our software, including Office XP Standard edition. The disc we own is for an upgrade (because we originally purchased it to upgrade a previous version of Office). Can we reinstall Office from this "upgrade" version (we don't have the disc for the previous version of Office because it was installed when we purchased the computer)?
From: Carey Frisch [MVP] on 22 Jul 2005 09:59 Unfortunately, no. Without the original qualifying Office CD, the upgrade version you now have cannot be installed. You'll need to purchase a "Full Version" of Microsoft Office. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Microsoft Newsgroups ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "MSUdub" wrote: | We just had to reformat our hard-drive and reinstall Windows XP Home edition. | We now need to reintall all our software, including Office XP Standard | edition. | | The disc we own is for an upgrade (because we originally purchased it to | upgrade a previous version of Office). From: Bob I on 22 Jul 2005 10:18 You will need to contact the vendor to get the install disks for the previous version. From: Beth Melton on 22 Jul 2005 13:09 You need to have a qualifying product in order to install the upgrade. Here's a list for Office XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q290540 Note you don't have to have the product installed, when asked for the qualifying product, remove the upgrade CD and insert the CD for the qualifying product. From: BrianC on 23 Jul 2005 01:35 Reformat with your system recovery discs. The manufacturer is REQUIRED to give recovery CDs or use a hidden partition. Reinstall with factory image.
