I am running XP on this machine, but i have a computer downstairs running
2000. i lately have been exploiting the CMD commands, but i still cannot
remote shutdown the computer. it tells me "access is denied". any reason why?
any way to fix?

I could be wrong, but I think that this was one of the patches when the
Sasser virus was out.

Not sure if there is a work around.

Based on Microsoft article,
Cause: You must have the appropriate user rights on the remote computer
before you attempt to shut it down.

Solution: Establish the appropriate user rights on all computers that you
must remotely manage. Being able to shut down a computer locally does not
mean that you have the right to shut it down remotely.


If logon administrator and setup the same password on both computers, can
you shutdown it remotely?
