It works on paper also. It is just not called Digital ICE, Digital ICE is a trademark name that belongs to Kodak. There are software programs that perform the same functions as Digital ICE on paper scans. Polaroid has some software programs for dust and scratch removal. http://www.polaroid.com/service/software/poladsr/poladsr.html Plug-in for Photoshop. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1981065,00.asp How to in Photoshop. http://www.light-and-shadow.com/articles/dust/dust.html There are also scanners that have the function built-in for paper scans. http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2007/ces/bg_dust_scratch.pdf Through HP Labs' innovative combination of hardware and software technologies, HP scanners allow users to accurately recover slides, negatives and prints that would otherwise be ruined. There are other scanners that have the ability to remove dust and scratches on paper scans. My Canon Canoscan 8400F has the function in Advanced Mode. You can select None, Low, Medium, or High. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- > > CSM1 wrote: >> "JohnB" <bilecky(a)excite.com> wrote in message >> news:10d94d38-13c4-4797-8fb1-7224d9c6bfd0(a)r66g2000hsg.googlegroups.com... >>> Does anyone know of software, which can help eliminate, crease or >>> paper folds when you scan a document or letter. It seems some versions, such as grayscale might show more than black & white bitmap--this of course would depend on your system. You might also try putting clean paper across the fold (in front)to see if it hides without being obvious. Clark
From: Barry Watzman on 24 May 2008 19:01 BULL**** Digital ICE works by scanning FILM with an Infra-red channel of light that passes THROUGH the film (and it does not work, even as "Digital ICE" with films that are IR opaque) . It is true that other firms use this technology by other names because "Digital ICE" is a trademark, but that TECHNOLOGY (by any name) works only with film .... it does not work with paper. There are other "enhancment" technologies that can be used with paper, but not the technology called "Digital ICE" (by that or any other name). Recall somebody in this NG explaining a way to do this in greysacle (i. e., any image software) by modifying the compression type for TIF, however I do not recall the procedure.
