I have OE set up to check two accounts for mail. Account #1 is set as the
default, and when I compose a new message it's sent from there. But whenever
I reply to an archived message that was received before a certain date this
past April, my reply is sent by default from Account #2 -- and I have to use
the drop-down menu to change the outgoing address. This really has me
stumped. Any idea why OE has the default outgoing address wrong, but only
for replies and only for older messages?

When Replying To or Forwarding a message, OE will always put the address to
which the message was originally sent in the FROM box. If the message was
sent to Address #2, OE will use the same address when you open a Reply. You
will have to change it manually.

That's what's so puzzling: Almost all of these messages were sent to Account
#1, but when I reply, OE wants to send that reply from Account #2.

That's what's so puzzling. Almost all of these message were sent to me at
Account #1, but OE still wants to send my replies from Account #2.

Could Account #1 and Account #2 be aliases for the same mailbox?

Most families (an intentionally all-encompassing term) will have one Mail
Account with their one ISP subscription ($$/month for all). Most ISPs
provide you with multiple Addresses for the Mail Account (e.g., Me(a)ISP.com,
You(a)ISP.com, etc.) but all of them "point" to the one mailbox.
