I have installed Studio MX 2004 on a Windows 2000 pro workstation on our school
network. As admininistrator I can run all the applications in the Studio suite,
but as a student user I can run all but Fireworks. I get and error message
reporting that 'Fireworks can not run. The resource files are missing or
damaged.'

It seems to me that the issue is to do with where Fireworks looks for these
resources when a student user is logged onto the workstation. I don't think it
is a permissioning problem, but I might be wrong!

I have already searched this forum, and found one thread relating to the error
message I get, but there were no follow up post resolving the issue.

Any ideas?

Bob

Read the following tech note and see if it helps you to resolve the issue.

Thanks Linda

I had found the TechNote already, but it makes little sense to me, when logged
on as a student user I can create files and folders in the root of the C:
drive, the Fireworks MX 2004 folder within the Macromedia folder in Program
files and in the TEMP folder in Winnt.

This suggests that the application is looking in the wrong location for the
resource files when a student user logs on.

You will probably have to put the students using Fireworks into a group
and give the group permissions to the macromedia folder.

Hi SKB

The Macromedia folder in Program files on the C: drive is currently full
control to all users so I don'tthink it can be a permissioning problem, I
wonder about the possibility of it being a problem with a local environmental
variable, like the location of the TEMP Ours is set to %userprofile\Local
Settings\TEMP
