Aren't we just sick and tired of flash problems ? Well, I've tried just
about everything to get Flash working in either/or Firefox (2 & 3),
Konqueror & Opera. I've copied the libflashplayer.so file manually to all
relevant folders. Still doesn't work. This is the latest version
available. What to do, what to do ?

It would be nice to be able to see the 'street view' maps at Google, not to
mention my local install of visuwords, etc...

P.S. I don't particularly like flash enabled sites but there ubiquitous and
sometimes the only way to view something important.. Too bad we don't have
an equivalent open source application/plugin..

Oh well.

I tried to do as suggested at the link you pointed to but to no avail.

This is one of those times when ya just gotta say......uggghhhhhh!!

So, since I really want to view an online (not downloadable !) flash
tutorial I finally broke down and......pauses...holds nose....

.....I started up IE4L (Internet Explorer for Linux) and that works.

This sucks !! A proprietary browser for a proprietary plugin to view a
proprietary formated tutorial....

Adobe should wake up and fix this....stability problem, or whatever problem
this is.

Better yet would be for people to stop using FLASH for ANYTHING !!!!

As I stated earlier, it would be nice if we had an open source application
for displaying animated presentations...

Hmmm.. This looks promising: http://www.salasaga.org/

Here's hoping.

P.S. I haven't given up yet. I've got a couple of ideas to try still.
I'll report back when I figure this out.

Everyday I read about Flash fsckups like this, of some form or another, and
I'm truly grateful I never found Flash useful for anything I want to do. It
should come as no surprise I have no burning need for YouTube, etc.

Also, I fortunately find kpdf a perfectly adequate substitute for the other
Adobe trapware, Acroread.

I have yet to install either Adobe abomination: Flash, or Acroread. I don't
miss them at all, ever. Naturally, YMMV...

Please note I didn't say Adobe was hopeless; they're just useless to me.

More information. When I launch Firefox in a terminal I get this:

Besides all those Gdk-CRITICAL warnings is this possibly an x-server
problem ?? As this shockwave flash plugin did work when I initially
installed openSUSE-10.3 (<-see Houghi, I was paying attention !) I don't
see that there should be a problem with x-server...

Anyone see something in this error message that might be of significance ??

Thanks.

Now I launched Konqueror in a terminal and first tried to load the
localhost 'swf' page (visuwords) and then the flash tutorialI'm trying to
see and this is the error message I get:

mike(a)jupiter:~> konqueror

preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object '/opt/kde3/\/libartsc.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be

Still not sure what this means but I'll keep trying...

My guess is this is a Gtk problem. Using gtk2-2.12.5-1.1.
