Hi Peter,

I'll make a note to submit an issue but I'm waiting first to see
some sort of acceptance/refusal of an issue I already submitted: I had
to send a couple of files directly instead of attached as usual to the
Issue (file size) and I'm waiting to see that they were accepted before
I do anything else.
I'm a newbie to OOo and submitting issues so it's just an attempt at
making sure things go right before I create more than one "mess"<g>.
Oh, and yes I had chosen the Word filter. Being a newbie I'm also
trying to make certain it isn't just plain old cockpit error.

Thanks much,

Twayne

I can't believe that in a properly installed version of OpenOffice.org
that contains the OOo Writer module a file that indeed is a proper Word
file is not detected as such by OOo. So either your installation is
somewhat damaged, the file has an extension that is registered to OOo
Calc in you system or the file is not a Word file. Or some Gremlins have
taken over you computer. :-)

Ciao,
Mathias

Please don't reply to "nospamformba(a)gmx.de".
I use it for the OOo lists and only rarely read other mails sent to it.

Sounds like a problem with the configuration of either
OOo or Windows.

Simplest first, would be to remove and reinstall OOo.
If that doesn't help..., there are ways to fix other
configurations but without knowing or finding what is
misconfigured, I usually just end up reinstalling
Windows.

saludos,
Richard.

I have a tendency to agree with you but can't find anything yet. I'm
assuming it has to be some sort of .doc file corruption at the moment
and going to attack it that way. Have run Norton AV and AVG, Adaware,
Spybot S&D, SpywareGuard, Windows Defender and have WinPatrol, NAT fw,
ZA SW firewall running; all updated, nothing found.

If you look back thru the posts though you'll note some plausible
reasons for what's going on. I'm just trying to see for certain now;
it's the principle of the thing now!

Possible I suppose but I think not very likely; all ts'ing OK that way.

Already done.

No, that's about 99% sure to result in the same symptoms. I tried an
old image but manual reinstalls are seldom if ever necessary, especially
after only an OOo reinstall has been recommended. Too manyother things
are possible - the idea is to know why, so next time it's a manageable
situation.
