That was the way > most restaurants have done it for years. > There is a restaurant near us that USED TO BE our favorite restaurant. That was while they still used paper checks, all paper. The cash register was electronic, but the orders were all paper. Then they changed to a computerized order system where the waitresses all carry a PDA-like device and enter your order on the PDA thing. Now the waitresses don't even look at you while they are taking your order, they can't enter special requests (like "no pickle" for example). And the most annoying thing is, these PDA things are the cash register also. So when you get your nice printout of what you owe, you have to chase down your waitress to pay your bill. Then you both have to walk up to the computer to make change. It is so bizarre, we don't even go there anymore. We used to eat there like twice a week, too, and recommend other people to go there. But now it is like an automated feed lot. It's just not the same, you don't get service there anymore, you just GET SERVED. -Dave

This would be more cost effective than a second computer. |
