A bit early in the season, I know, but I'm trying to get this ready to
release through iTunes and the like before the real Halloween: The
recording, which I'd call an "initial final mix candidate", is at:

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=1653017

This is a remix of a 2004 project which was itself a remix of a 2003
project. ;-) This version features Hans Van Even (of CakewalkNet) on all
guitars, including bass. Drums are Drums On Demand loops, then I'm playing
the piano, "fiddle" (Garritan Stradivari 2), and doing all the vocals. My
Eagles imitation? ;-)

I don't even know what version of SONAR this started in, but I know it went
through Samplitude at one point for Hans to do his tracks, then back into
SONAR some more, and this latest mix was done, more or less from scratch,
including totally redoing the fiddle part, after collating a few different
versions of the project, in SONAR 7.

Any mix-type feedback would be greatly appreciated. I want to try to finish
this up in the next 2-3 days.

I really liked this song. I think you could turn down the vocals just a
bit so the other stuff could be heard.

I like the lyrics.

In country the lyrics are every thing. I'd pull a little out of the vocal
anywhere between 250-650hz on the vocals (whatever sounds best, pretty
narrow) and bump it up in the 5k-8k region to make it even more
intelligible. And maybe add an envelope to boost a few of the harder to hear
lines. Otherwise, excellent. (If the bass cut doesn't work try a low end
roll-off anywhere up to 100hz. It just sounds too bassy on my end but I
can't tell exactly what would work, or maybe both).

Thanks for the feedback, Ricky, kitekrazy, and Glennbo. I'll try
experimenting with all of your ideas.

I forgot to mention that the lyrics on this are by Kent Newsome.

Rick,
I can't add anything other than what the others have commented on,
especially the point about certain words getting lost. But I must say this
is a great tune.
Can't hear the violin solo to well...gotta bump it up a few notches. If you
ever do a remake of the remake, I would love to hear a real harmonica in
that section.
I REALLY liked the guitar work on this one.
