Is there a tweak I can use to fix this? If you can't solve the problem within Leopard itself then you might want to look at SoundSource which is free from Rogue Amoeba: http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/ Ian -- Ian Gregory http://www.zenatode.org.uk/ian/
From: Splatador on 24 Apr 2008 21:39 The speakers are plugged into the Line Out jack in the back, and the headphones into the front jack. I am playing a song using iTunes with the speakers on, and the sound comes normally from the speakers. I also have the Sound panel open. When I plug in the headphones (yes I have used different pairs) the "Internal Speakers" immediately changes to "Headphones" (and changes back when I unplug them). However, the sound continues to come only from the speakers unless I click on "Headphones." When I do that, the sound from the speakers stops and goes through the headphones. In order to re-activate the speakers, I have to click on "Line Out." (If I click on "Digital Out" neither works.) The problem is that the sound does not seem to be able to come from both simultaneously. I would much rather just turn my speakers off than have to mess with the control panel. I installed PTHVolume to see if that might help, but it also offers me an either/or option only. From the Help: * To listen through your computer's built-in speakers, select "Internal speakers." * To listen to external speakers or headphones that are connected to the headphone jack, select Headphones. * To listen through external USB speakers, select your speakers in the list. Sigh. I suppose I may have to call Apple about this one. I suppose I'll have to talk to them about my Spotlight probs, too...

The auto-switch seems to do the job, but I'd still rather have it work normally. |
