From: Splatador on 24 Apr 2008 15:06 Since I upgraded to Leopard, I've had a problem with the sound out that is driving me insane. If I plug in headphones, I'm not able to use them unless I go to the Sound system prefs and manually set the output to the headphones, and then switch it back if I want to use the speakers again. Before 10.5, the speakers always worked regardless of whether or not the headphones were plugged in. Is there a tweak I can use to fix this? thanks!

Is there a tweak I can use to fix this? Do you see any errors in the console or system logs when you plug and unplug the headphones? Are you being sure to insert the headphone plug all the way into the jack? -- Please send all responses to the relevant news group. I don't see any error messages in the logs that obviously refer to the sound or headphones, and I've got it crammed in as far as it will go. It's a brand new Mac Pro, and I just assumed this was a "feature" of Leopard.

It's not a feature of which I'm aware. When I plug headphones into the headphone jack of my Power Mac G5 tower, sounds is automatically played through the headphones. Note that if there are speakers plugged into the back of the tower, those speakers still play - sound is routed through the speakers *and* the headphones. But I definitely don't have to do anything special to get sound out of the headphones, other than plug them in. -- Please send all responses to the relevant news group. Have you tried it with another set of headphones? You may want to contact Apple support about this and see what they have to say about it. -- Please send all responses to the relevant news group.
