From: noname87 on 11 Sep 2006 22:13 I have a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7VTXH) that has built in sound. For some reason the sound drivers keep disappearing. I reload the drivers (current from Gigabyte site) and everything works. Then the next day I have no sound and have to reload the drivers. Ant idea what is going on? I am running Windows XP and the the system has been stable for three years. No new software in the last six months.

No new software in the last six months. > If you have a resource conflict, it's possible that the sound is being turned off on cold boot because something else is using the resources that the sound 'card' needs. With Windows being plug and pray, reloading the drivers might fix the problem momentarily. If you are lucky, your BIOS will let you assign IRQs to specific expansion slots. But to know what to tweak, start at device manager (under system in control panel) Do a view, resources by type, and see what is using various IRQs. If you see a sound 'card' sharing an IRQ with something else, try to assign an unused IRQ to that something else. For example, on my system, the sound card shares an IRQ with a video capture card. That hasn't caused a problem. But if it did, I could enter the BIOS and assign an unused IRQ to the PCI slot that the video capture card is in. Then hopefully, the sound card will continue to use the previous IRQ and not "share" again. -Dave
From: Davy on 12 Sep 2006 10:29 Yikes thats a strange one, you load the sound drivers and lose them the next day, have looked in hardware manager right clicking the on-board AC97 sound and checking the drivers there. Wonder what happens if you leave your 'pewtur' on do you loose them the next day then, the next time it happens and you install them, turn your computer off a few minutes and then turn it back on do you lose them then? I can't really see you losing them at a specific time unless there's a bug or some specific task is being carried out. I use the 7VAXP and never have this problem with the on-board AC97 sound. Davy
From: mackenoly on 12 Sep 2006 13:54 Yep,I have had similiar prob's like that. And saying to check for conflic's is a good idea, even though you pc doesn't say you have, might still be. some systems are very susceptible to close addresses with other parts.I have a sound card that is effected by my scroll mouse. If I am on a page and am scrolling through a page with music on,it music stutters and stops till I stop scrolling. Weird ..I'll find the problem someday, but as yet my pc tells me there is no conflic.Yea must be. anyway thanks
From: noname87 on 13 Sep 2006 17:13 I reloaded the drives and rebooted th machine and everything worked Turned it off and went to bed. Lost the drivers again today. According to the device manager everything was fine. When I open the audio part of the control panel, it says no device is present. I will look again at the resources to see if there is a conflict. This has me stumped since nothing (except updating the virus programs) has changed in the past year. noname87(a)hotmail.com wrote: > I have a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7VTXH) that has built in sound.
