Before I bother those nice people: is the Soundtracs worth the trouble? Or
should it be kicked into the dumpster and replaced?

Soundtracs were well regarded. If it's mainly pots and switches and faders it's
likely do-able without too much trouble as long as the same style of parts is still
available. It'll just be a case of cost. I've pre-warned Rob of your potential call
btw, he may be a useful contact in any event.
