Suggestion: Initially at least, don't kill Google Groups posts, just
have your filter highlight them. Then for a week or two, scan the
highlighted Subject: lines in each newsgroup window when you first open
it. You'll soon get a feeling for the ratio of spam to useful messages
in these highlighted posts. My impressions were that this ratio varied
quite a bit from newsgroup to newsgroup; could change quite a bit from
day to day; and overall was far from fully spam, so that just killing
all GG posts was a fairly blunt approach.

Some groups get hundreds of Google spams a day. The ratio doesn't
matter. All of Google has to be blocked to use the group.

Block Google's spam and enjoy Usenet again.
Reply with Google and I won't hear from you.

This may seem a little selfish, but instead of doing the highlighting
thing mentioned above I allow those who don't filter out all google
groups posts to do quality control for me.

Thus in the unlikely event that there really is a useful or interesting
post from google groups then there is a good chance that someone who
doesn't filter out those groups will respond to it. So I will see the
response and so be able to look at the original google group post.

Of course this strategy won't work if *everyone* filters out google
groups so I hope some of you will continue to leave them unfiltered!

EXCELLENT

Thanks!

change - no XHDR support....)
