From: Markemark on 18 May 2008 16:46 Hi I have a Project which contains a task which is 20 days long. 10 days into the 1st task, it is stopped while another task takes place for 5 days. After which, the original task continues. How should this be done in Project? Should the first task be a split task? If so, how do I link the 2nd task to the 1st, mid-way though the 1st task? Or should I split the first task into two seperate tasks with second task placed between them, using Finish to Start relationship? Thanks
From: JulieS on 18 May 2008 17:21 Hi Markemark, I'd suggest 3 tasks linked F to S. I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along. From: "Steve House" sjhouse at hotmail dot on 19 May 2008 09:24 Why is the first task stopping for the second one? Is it that the second is making something that's needed for the second half of the first task or is it because the same resource is needed on both tasks and it's more important for the second one to finish ASAP than it is for the first one? If it's the former, task 1 is really two distinct operations and should be split into two tasks with the second task inserted in between them and linked. But if it's the second, leave task 1 intact, set the priority to task 2 higher than 1, and let resource leveling split the first task as needed to free up the resource to move over to the second when it starts and return to the first when 2 finishes. -- Steve House [Project MVP] MS Project Trainer & Consultant Visit http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm for the FAQs "Markemark" <Markemark(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:567D72EF-8E04-40B1-B171-94090CD46DBB(a)microsoft.com... > Hi > > I have a Project which contains a task which is 20 days long. 10 days > into > the 1st task, it is stopped while another task takes place for 5 days. > After > which, the original task continues. > > How should this be done in Project?
