I've just purchased a PPC 6600 from Sprint and seem to be having good luck
with it; however, as noted by other posters, the ringer volume is very low
(even in it's loudest setting).

Is there an add-in or third party app that will fix this? I need the ability
to hear the ringer over other noise or from other rooms. Can any one help???

Ciao,

The phone itself seems fine (except for the ringer problem). The only other
glitch I've noticed is that for some unknown reason the words "My Info" on
the opening screen (Owner Information) pixilate after a short time
(strangely, no other text does this). If I do a soft reset, it restores the
image but then pixilates again when the screen is shut off and turned back
on. A very minor annoyance.

A while back, I tried the Hitachi G1000 and was very disappointed in the
signal strength - but loved the Windows 2002 software and the capability of
having a phone and PDA in one device. Unfortunately, when I complained to
Sprint (about the signal strengh) they couldn't do anything. The only other
choice I had at the time was the Treo 600 which is a great phone, but I
never cared for the Palm OS. Still, I bought it anyway as a stop-gap.

When I had gotten word that this phone (PPC 6600) was coming available from
Sprint, I ordered one over the phone before they even had it up on their
website. Over all, I'm not disappointed in the phone at all - just the
volume controls. The Bluetooth capability is fantastic (hated having a
cord), the camera seems fine for what it is (even has a flash), and the
sliding keyboard is great. Be aware that the documentation sucks though. By
the way, the system volume and voice volume work fine... it's just the
ringer. I even downloaded "loud" ringers and still I can't hear it when I'm
playing music or downstairs (I could with the Treo).

My opinion? I would look at both the newer Treo 650 and the PPC 6600 and go
with whichever operating system you are comfortable with. Both seem to be
fine phones.

By the way, switching from Palm OS back to Windows was easy but when I
originally switched from Windows to Palm, I had a lot of aggravation. Most
of it me being unfamiliar with the interface.

I agree with everything said here. I too made the change from windows
and then to palm, and after 1-1/2 years, still do not like it. When
the PPC6600 came out, I too purchased it before it hit the stores.
To offset the ringer, I just have it on vibrate. When I am in the
other room, I can hear the phone vibrate on a book louder than the
ringer.

My main problem with this phone is for some reason, when others call
me they have an echo on their side. I have had complaints from my
customers both on land lines and on cell phones. I purchased a blue
tooth ear piece to see if it has something to do with the speaker,
but am still having complaints.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Gregg
