Hi, I am new here, and I have a problem. I used to have a C64, with a
game called The Standing Stones, and have looked far and wide for a
clean (original) copy of the game, with no extra characters saved on
it. I finally found one, only to run into the same problem I had with
the other versions: no idea what the Dungeon Master password is to
re-initialize the game and erase the high-score list. I have the
ORIGINAL manual right here and it doesn't mention what the password
starts as, and I assumed that the original game had you set one when
you started for the first time. I don't know, however, so my question
is this:

Could someone help me find this in-game password, or tell me where to
look for the information I need? By the way, if this is the wrong group
or against group rules, please disregard my message. I just want to
play the game the way I used to! (My old password was foxfire...)

Addendum: Also, the game seems to have a strange problem where my
Fireburst spell is always used up. You can only cast it once per trip
to the dungeon, and on the emulator, it won't let me use it at all. I
think I'll try a different emulator to see if it makes a difference...
I'm using CCS64 right now. EDIT: I tried it on VICE with the same
results.

Hello,

Welcome to comp.sys.cbm. This is an OK place to ask such a question :)
Hopefully someone will have a good answer for you.

I had a sealed original of this game at one time -- don't know if I
still do. I'm pretty sure I have an opened one that I could check, but
I've never actually played this game.

I know another collector that does have a sealed one, but not too sure
he'll crack the seal on it.

You may want to go and register at www.lemon64.com and post a message
in their forums. That's where a lot of people get their specific game
releated help.

Do you have the necessary cables and such to make an image of the disk?
Maybe someone could find the password for you.

Jerry

I'm working off of an image, as my original disk is long-since trashed
(boo hoo...) I've found out that most of the quirks seem to be
involved in the emulation, and not problems with the image itself. My
main concern at this point is either:

A. Finding a password hacker/code master who knows C64 stuff who can
look through a given program's code and find the password for me, or

B. Finding someone who can upload an image of their disk, old or new as
long as it works, WITH the DM password for reinitialization. Then the
state of the Knight File and dungeon wouldn't matter. You could have a
full roster of knights lost in the dungeon and I could reset to a clean
start, as long as I had the password.

I'm checking around at multiple websites to find information on this
subject, with little luck so far, but I have found more fans of the
game (which surprises me, as I had a devil of a time finding it in the
first place...)

Well, thanks for your info so far, and if I manage to find out more,
I'll share it with the community.

You can email me for the d64 that has the PW protection removed or -

You can do it from a hex editor.

Open the d64 in xvi32 or your favorite.

Memory location 1FB3C should have 89. Change it to 8F.

BTW, if you ARE using xvi32, make sure that you overwrite that memory
location. It defaults to insertion, which is not what you want.

Simply place the cursor over the 89, type in 8F then press the delete
key once.

Cool little game. This is the first time I've ever seen it. Looks like
a 3d Telengard.

Very Nice!

Thanks,
