Maxtor Shared Storage II faulty data transmission
I have been using a Maxtor Shared Storage II for over a year now. This is connected to a Netgear DG834G (aka DG834Gv1) router which connects wirelessly to my laptop. The main use of the Maxtor drive is to store films and my iTunes library. The network drive and the router have the latest firmware updates. For th... 20 Jun 2008 15:20

reliable HD above 500GB?

It appears that big drives are not as reliable as the smaller HDs. I wonder which man... 19 Jun 2008 16:48

RAID 5 write performance
Since it's striped I would expect RAID 5 to be faster than RAID 1 generally, but I've read some vague references (in this link and elsewhere) to lower write performance in 5 than in 1. Why would that be so? http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Transaction-Logs-Lifeblood-Exchange.html -- Reply in group, b... 15 Jul 2008 10:14

Corrupted DVD-RAM disks
I have just about reached the point of throwing these disks away. However, one last shot - I hope someone can help me. I have a Panasonic DVD recorder that randomly decides healthy dvd-ram disks are unformatted, and that they are locked, and cannot be unlocked because they are not formatted - catch 22. Sometimes... 27 Jun 2008 09:03

Any way to wipe this drive?
I have a 120 GB hard drive that my RAID controller encountered an error with, so I am trying to wipe it and return it to the manufacturer. But when I use Copywipe to wipe it, Copywipe encounters an error at 52%. It asks me if I want to continue, and I enter Y, but then Copywipe freezes the system. So it looks li... 30 Jun 2008 23:01
