From: Little Nemo on 14 Apr 2008 04:30 Hey everybody. Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been having a weird problem with my Dell XPS Gen 4 for several months. Whenever a game (except Hoyle or Windows included) is played full screen, or even Media Center goes full screen, I get one system beep and about 5-10 minutes of play before the system errors out and reboots itself. Sometimes the errors point to the graphics card, sometimes to the sound card, sometimes to onboard RAM. I have tested all these without problems. My graphics card: Radeon X859 XT Platinum Edition Sound card: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) I'm running XP Media Center fully up to date. Any ideas of what to try? TIA

Sorry.
From: wm_walsh on 14 Apr 2008 11:00 Hi! > Any ideas of what to try? Is the system clean? Are all fans working? Does the power supply meet the requirements of the card? If the card has a power connector, is it plugged in? It sounds like the computer may be having trouble keeping up with the card's demand for power. I suspect that the diagnostics you have run just don't stress the card or system to the breaking point. Real life applications are often the best test you can run anyway. You mentioned that Windows XP Media Center is fully up to date on your computer. Are the display drivers fully up to date as well? William

Although I had to replace the graphics card early on from Dell, it worked fine for over a year. It likes Direct X is not releasing memory and the RAM or onboard memory is just filling up over time and then crashing. I'll recheck everything. Dell wants to wipe the system whenever you call with a problem like this and I already did that months ago, which suggests to me hardware again. These crossed errors I'm getting are making me crazier than I started with. Sorry I wasn't more detailed this morning but thanks for the reply. Little Nemo

Forgot to mention that all drivers are also up to date.
