I have a strange problem with my new keyboard and I can't solve it.
I would like to work with the F-keys but they doesn't act right. There
is no response when I press any F-key .
When I run "xev" and press F1 I get the following:

and also for F2 I got

On my MS Wireless Internet KB there is a key at the top right, in line
with the F keys which says "F Lock". Every time you boot the computer you
have to press that key to get the function keys to work. Perhaps you have
the same setup as me?

Is there a solution to activate the F-lock at boot time ?
I activated the numlock like this, but it would be handy if the F-lock could
be activated also

in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsetup

add after
#! /bin/sh
# Xstartup - run as root before session starts

the following
/usr/bin/X11/numlockx on

I have one of these keyboard and unfortunately there isn't a solution
for this, not even for windows that I'm aware of because of the inherent
hardware design of the keyboard.

The only solution I can suggest is to buy a later model (maybe from the
4000 series) where the light is on from book, and if you want it off you
have to turn it off by hand, which is of course a massive improvement.

I'll wait until the next cup of coffee kills my current keyboard as
they're 20+ a pop.
