From: Rob van Erk on 18 Jul 2008 16:56 Hi all, I'am considering to develop a rather small support utility including some kind of ToDo list for our engineers and possibly user service call registration for incoming support calls from our customers. Has anyone of you developed a similar kind of tool or most of you using professional, rather expensive tools like SMS or other? Maybe the question is somewhat beyond the scope of this forum but keen to get some feedback on this. Currently "playing" with Vo2Ado (yes.. I purchased the license after using the demo version) together with bBrowser and think all should be there to develope some software which will meet our needs. Thks, Rob
From: Ginny Caughey on 18 Jul 2008 17:57 Rob, We are using VO2Ado very happily for our VO apps that access SQL Server. I use Classmate so I don't use bBrowser, but many other people are using that combination successfully from what I gather. We log tech support issues using ACT! - not a perfect solution by any means but it gets the job done. -- Ginny Caughey www.wasteworks.com "Rob van Erk" <erk.v(a)hotmail.com> wrote in message news:364eacba-7344-4e6c-afe7-37787dde49ef(a)i76g2000hsf.googlegroups.com... > Hi all, > > I'am considering to develop a rather small support utility including > some kind of ToDo list for our engineers and possibly user service > call registration for incoming support calls from our customers. From: Geoff Schaller on 18 Jul 2008 19:39 Rob. Yes, I have a suggestion. Use Sharepoint, not VO. This is perfect for Sharepoint and its free with Server 2003 and 2008. It does all the things you suggest and more: keeping track of events and tasks, interfaces with Outlook's calendars and tasks, basic CRM, alerts and with a bit of work, KPIs. Also it is immediately remote-enabled meaning it is can be accessible from the web. What you should retain VO to do are vertical operations that are data-centric. The ToDo thing is nothing beyond a basic a list or two and is really CRM oriented. But such things are re-invented every 15 minutes somewhere in the world so there is bound to be a ton of alternates. From: Geoff Schaller on 18 Jul 2008 19:40 PS - With Sharepoint you can have a professional app like this up and running in a day. Two at the most. Thanks for the feedback. I will have a look at Sharepoint. We have an Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft and a lot of MS Servers (still 2003) running. Throughout Europe they are all connected to the same domain structure and seems better to focus on this one. Only wonder to what extend Sharepoint can be considered as "free". Don't you have to pay for specific Sharepoint CAL's or whatever? Anyhow will have a look at this. Perhaps also interesting to follow a kind of Sharepoint training at Microsoft or others. Thanks for the input. In the meantime playing around with VO and Vo2Ado. This all to learn more about SQL, etc. Bad weather here so...... Brgds, Rob |
