From: Danny Gerst on 7 May 2008 15:34 Hi, I am really confused. I own a HP48g for two month, but it was not possible for me to run a symbolic differenation. The example in the short manual for example: f(x)=5*x^2-6/x I started the function differentiate, entered the term 5*x^2-6/x in the field EXPR:, choose X in the field VAR and selected Symbolic in the field RESULT. After hitting OK I got an numeric value on the stack: 65.1420118343. This happens with every function I try to differentiate. Only the number afterward on the stack changed. I never got the symbolic solution. Anyone an idea, what I did wrong or why the 48g behaves this way? Thanks in advanced, Danny

If so the calculator may be using that rather then the symbol 'x'. Tom Lake
