Can anyone tell me if there is a trick to solving systems of linear
equations that contain complex numbers with the HP35S? I've used the
built-in solver program to solve systems of linear equations, but it
seems to fail if those equations contain complex coefficients.

Solving these by hand can be tedious and error prone, especially 3x3.

There is no trick but a simple solution: write your own program.
For 2x2 and 3x3 just use Cramer's rule and you're done.
