My Tatung Tablet PC Pen is looking the worse for wear now. Apart from Extra
Buttons/Eraser end do all the Tablet PC pens work in the same way on the
screen. Im thinking of purchasig a Toshiba Tablet PC pen as they are readily
available but dont wont to if you can only use a propriety one. Any info
gratefully received

Dave, I believe the Tatung uses a regular "stylus" pen, without a battery,
so yes, they're the same and can switch - unless, of course, the Tablet PC
uses a pen with a battery. 8-) Toshiba has a "normal" pen, but I really
prefer my Cross Pen.

Most Tablet PCs use the "Penabled" drivers from Wacom, which you can check
out at http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/oem.cfm for the various manufacturers.

Actually Chris is not entirely correct
Not all pens will work with every tablet, and its not because of a battery.
Some may work on a seperate Frequency (actually a really high RF signal).
I'm not too sure what frequency each one works on. You can go to wacom.com
and check out their nice selection of pens that work on all tablet PCs and
their wacom tablets.
I'm looking to get the professional looking pen when i get some money.
If you are lucky and buy one from a different OEM (i suppose is the right
word), it may work on your tablet pc. I do beleive they might work the same,
but don't just buy one without regard that i may not work, if it's cheap
enough though why not try?

Deep down each pen works similar, the tablet board sends radio waves to the
pen, which bombards it, then powers up the pen, the pen then sends another
radio wave back to the tablet board which, in turn detects the location based
on a grid. But if your screen and the pen don't match, then they wont even
know each other are there. (this use of bombarding something with radio waves
to gain power was actually used first by russian spys, spying on the
president many years ago. heard about it on History Channel.)
Check out www.wacom.com about how the things work, I may be a little wrong.
But that's how i understood it to work.

Interesting. Can you tell me which ones don't work, please? I have yet to
see one that won't function properly with a different manufacturer (except
the battery requirements) and would like to know which are incompatible.

Well, as far as I know my Wacom Tablet Pen does not work with my TAblet PC.
But thats all I know, I wonder if there is a list of compatable and non
compatable pens.
You know, I could be wrong, and that all the pens for the Tablet PCs are
designed the same, but I just don't know. All I do know is that the
possibility is there that they may not work. I do remember hearing about
someone's pen not working with the Gateway M275 (which is what I have). @
www.tabletPCbuzz.com
I too would love to see a compatability chart. Maybe something we can bug
wacom to produce, since the design is theirs.
