Doing it manually is probably a bad idea, as you might delete a file to which a later backup is pointing. (If a file hasn't changed since the last backup, it doesn't save the whole file again, just a pointer to the previous version.) However, you can go into the Finder's Time Machine UI and delete backups that way, using the items on the gear dropdown menu.
