From: Ivor Jones on 7 Feb 2005 15:30 Did anyone watch this..? Didn't know it was on until it had started so missed the first few minutes. All I saw was people going on about masts near schools etc. but nothing about the RF emitted from handsets clamped to the sides of the heads of the kids in the playground..! Talk about one sided. They may or may not have a point, but they should have reported both sides of the argument. Ivor

They were presented as a nasty german owned operator.. It all came across as a bit "Not In My Backyard".. i.e. the majority of the population have a mobile phone and it doesn't bother them, but nobody wants the actual masts near where they live or work or go to school.

I kept wondering how many of those people protesting had mobiles and where they suggest the masts should go. BTW anyone want to put a mast on my roof..? I could do with an extra 6 grand a year ;-) Ivor

There has always been plenty of "waves" being transmitted for radio/tv, and more recently many satellites in geo-stationary orbit transmitting thousands of tv and radio channels via satellite, but as people can't see these they don't moan. All of this "radiation", whatever the power/frequency may be harmful to us, but as there is no evidence they don't stop it. I guess they are waiting for hard evidence like illnesses to increase dramatically, or life expectancy to fall for the entire population before they start looking for reasons.

So what about the 1MW ERP being transmitted from the main TV transmitters..? Why aren't people living within sight of Sutton Coldfield, for example, clamouring for its removal..? I seem to recall that one of the main protesters against mobile masts lives in that area. > All of this "radiation", whatever the power/frequency may be > harmful to us, but as there is no evidence they don't stop it. By which time it will be too late. If there *is* a problem, that is. I've been using PMR and Amateur Radio (the latter with some *very* high ERP figures..!) for over 20 years and I haven't come down with cancer yet. I know many elderly amateurs who have been on air for 40 and 50 years plus and none of them have come down with anything that could be blamed on RF (not the dreaded "radiation" word, which seems to be used merely for scaremongering) exposure.
