Is there a function that will accept an X and Y value for a child
window I am working with and transpose it to the parent's X and Y
coord?

How would the event.screenX (and Y) work? Is that compatible with all
the comkon browsers? I notice it seems to read the X and Y even when
the cursor is over an IFrame,
