Trying to use laptop as a monitor too

From: Bones6 on 3 Apr 2008 15:15 I have a Dell monitor hooked up to my desktop, and I connected my laptop to my desktop in the hopes of trying to get the desktop display on both my monitor and my laptop. I'm using a DVI cable to go from the desktop to the monitor and a VGA cable to go from the laptop to the desktop. For some reason, when I do the extend desktop, it won't extend to the laptop, only create a screen I can't get too. Is there anyway to use my laptop as an extended screen for my desktop, or am I just a fool lol... -- Bones6

Well when I use my Gateway MX6124 with my Proview 19 inch LCD monitor, only one works as extended. I think the external monitor has to be the extended one here. -- Bill

You cannot feed a VGA signal into your laptop in the manner you describe any more than it would work the other way around.

And one use that I haven't used it for yet, was to record flight simulators in action. As for Bones6... if you want to display another desktop from another computer, you should checkout something like Remote Desktop Control. That is one of the easiest ones I've used. This is built into Windows XP Pro too. Plus there are others. The screen won't update real fast, but good enough for most tasks. -- Bill

Um, the second one, if those are the only choices. Monitors are cheap, and it sounds like your Dell has a video card that supports two monitors. Just get another one. |
