I recently posted this same problem.
I am not able to get any sound out of my Tungsten E.
I solved the previous problem about photos, but
I have no sound of any kind now.
Only thing I did was to download new software.
INFO says OS Software v.5.2.1, and Sounds & Alerts says V.1.0.1
Any ideas?

Bad speaker contacts. The E series has a very defective speaker contact
design that is prone to this problem. As to fixing it so that it stays
fixed? I have no idea. My two Tungsten Es were hopeless. I've had less
trouble with my Tungsten E2.

So you recommend the Tungsten E2 ?
I have seem them online for $ 150 + freight.
Do they use the same contacts, stylus, and power
adaptor as the Tungsten E ?

That's unfortunate. I was able to hardwire the contacts on my Tungsten
E. I liked the T|E so much that I bought another one that I keep in
the freezer until my current one finally goes 100% failure.

It does take a little skill, and some REALLY thin wire (I used enamel
coated transformer wire). I think I posted about this about a year ago
or more.

Hey, here is the link to it!

Good luck.

Thanks.

The E2 uses a different charger connector. Sorry. Still...it has really
good battery life (much better than the E); you may find that while
travelling you can wait until an AC outlet is handy before charging it.
