This didnt happen when I first started up this PC when I built it with
the P4PE MB, but I must have changed something, because now when I boot
up this irritating female voice telling me that the system has powered
up and is now booting from operating system.

I can't see the setting in the bios to turn this off, can someone tell
me where it is?

thanks!

Manual, section 4.4.2 "I/O Device Configuration". Bottom entry on the screen.

"Speech POST Reporter" [Disabled].

Note that one reason for this happening, is if there is a "System failed
due to CPU overclock", the BIOS settings may get reset. On some boards,
only settings that have to do with CPU speed are reset to sane
values. On other boards, everything gets set to defaults. Then
you have to put the settings back. On my current board, my
RAID controller keeps getting enabled if I get the "overclock"
error, so it's a PITA.

The other reason would be a CMOS reset, or changing the CMOS battery,
and having the settings reset by that. Then, you'd have to go into
the BIOS and restore your settings.

One of the early boards with Vocal POST, used a jumper for this function.
I bet there are a few people wishing they had that jumper. No more

"Computer now booting from operating system"

Since the Vocal POST electrical signal is only tied to the onboard
sound, plugging in a PCI sound card gets rid of it for you. If you
take your audio from a PCI sound card, there is no way for Vocal
POST to mess with it.

You can disable this as Paul told on BIOS. Another approach is to
change post reporter to a desirable/empty/short sound file using
Winbond Voice editor which came with my P4B533 CD. But that methods
flashes your EEPROM so i don't recommend to use this method if you
won't "change" the post reporter sound. Disable under BIOS in order
not to use.
